Salary: $19.50 - $25.96 hourly*

Olympic College is a public two‑year community college accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities that educates more than 13,000 students a year. The college is located on the scenic Kitsap Peninsula across Puget Sound from the city of Seattle.
Olympic College is continuously recruiting for Chemistry Instructional Tutor positions throughout the year. This position will help students develop knowledge, insight, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills in Chemistry course materials. Part‑time positions are reviewed on a quarter‑by‑quarter basis. Applicants are considered active for 12 months from the application date.
Essential Functions- Assist students in analyzing assignments and understanding class materials.
- Assist students in interpreting and understanding chemistry concepts.
- Assist students in the development of critical thinking and scientific communication skills.
- Assist students in developing effective study habits and skills.
- Assist students working in an online format.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
- Reference from an instructor or professor if you are a current Olympic College student.
- High School Graduate, Equivalent, or Current Running Start Student.
- Basic computer competency.
- Applicants need to meet at least one set of course qualifications:
- Inorganic Chemistry:
Completion of CHEM 141/151, CHEM 142/152 and CHEM 143/153 or equivalent courses with an average decimal grade of 3.5 or better. - Organic Chemistry:
Completion of CHEM 241/251, CHEM 242/252 and CHEM 243/253 or equivalent courses with an average decimal grade of 3.5 or better.
- College teaching or previous tutoring experience.
- Demonstrate excellence in Chemistry.
- Follow campus regulations, local, state, and federal laws, regulations and ordinances.
- Work various hours.
- Work successfully in a high‑attendance, high‑volume study center.
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Be adaptable and flexible.
- Function as a team player.
- Possess excellent customer service skills, including building and maintaining internal/external customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Olympic College mission, vision and values.
- Demonstrate ethics, integrity and sound professional judgment.

Hourly employees must work 480 hours in a rolling six‑month period to become eligible for health benefits. Hourly employees must work 70 hours in any five months for two consecutive years to become eligible for retirement. This is an hourly position scheduled to work up to 18 hours per week, with a salary of $19.50 - $25.96 per hour*. They are not initially eligible for benefits upon hire, but could qualify for the following:
