Olympic College is recruiting for an Assistant Head Coach of Track, Field & Cross Country. This role plays a vital leadership role within the Olympic College Athletic Department and contributes meaningfully to the Division of Student Development and Engagement. This position is responsible for enhancing the student‑athlete experience by fostering leadership, discipline, and personal growth, while ensuring the efficient operation of both programs.

Through strategic oversight of daily activities—including training, travel, and competition logistics—the Assistant Coach supports the Athletic Director’s broader focus on community engagement, strategic planning, and departmental advancement. This role is instrumental in cultivating a positive, inclusive, and high‑performing environment aligned with the college’s commitment to student success and holistic development.

Essential Functions

The Assistant Head Coach leads and manages all facets of the Track & Field and Cross Country programs, with a focus on excellence in both athletics and academics.

  • Designing and implementing training and competition schedules
  • Overseeing recruitment and retention of student‑athletes
  • Managing program budgets and resources
  • Ensuring compliance with institutional and conference policies
  • Supporting academic progress and personal development of student‑athletes
  • Collaborating with athletic staff and campus partners to align program goals with college values

This role serves as a mentor and role model, promoting a culture of integrity, teamwork, and resilience.

Under the guidance of the Athletic Director, the Associate Head Coach is responsible for the comprehensive leadership and daily management of Olympic College’s Track & Field and Cross Country programs. This includes:

  • Program Leadership
    :
    Direct the day‑to‑day operations of both programs, ensuring effective planning, execution, and evaluation of training, practices, and competitions.
  • Student‑Athlete Development
    :
    Lead recruitment efforts and oversee the training and performance of student‑athletes, fostering a culture of academic integrity, athletic excellence, and personal growth.
  • Travel & Logistics Coordination
    :
    Organize team travel for competitions, including transportation, lodging, and meals, and manage related expense reconciliation in accordance with college policies.
  • Budget Oversight
    :
    Administer program budgets and resources, ensuring responsible financial management and compliance with institutional and conference guidelines.
  • Promotion & Outreach
    :
    Collaborate with the sports information team to highlight athlete achievements and program milestones through social media, websites, and other promotional platforms.
  • Facility Coordination
    :
    Work with campus departments and external partners to secure and manage athletic facilities and off‑campus venues for practices and events.
  • Compliance & Reporting
    :
    Ensure adherence to NWAC, institutional, and state regulations, maintaining accurate documentation and timely reporting.
  • Departmental Engagement
    :
    Support broader athletic initiatives such as Hall of Fame events, community outreach, and student development programming.
  • Campus Collaboration
    :
    Represent the athletic department on college committees and contribute to campus‑wide initiatives that promote student engagement and success.
  • Culture Building
    :
    Foster an inclusive, growth‑oriented team environment that emphasizes leadership, wellness, and academic achievement.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of coaching experience in Track & Field and/or Cross Country, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing program operations, including budgeting, scheduling, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven success in recruiting and developing student‑athletes in alignment with academic and athletic standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Sports Management, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a closely related field.
