American Ethnic & Gender Studies Adjunct
Inside Higher Ed is recruiting an adjunct faculty to teach courses in American Ethnic & Gender Studies (AEGS) at Olympic College. The position will be part-time, primarily teaching Intro to Asian American and other AEGS classes when needed. Instruction is in-person, with daytime availability 8:00 AM‑3:15 PM and evenings 5:00‑7:15 PM.

- Teach evening, distance, and in‑person classes on the Poulsbo, Shelton, and Bremerton campuses.
- Provide quality teaching, including preparation, grading, and record keeping.
- Provide class syllabi to students by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
- Identify individual learning needs and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities.
- Communicate punctually with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Deliver instructional content with excitement and enthusiasm.
- Use a variety of methods and modes of instruction, including Ethnic and Indigenous Studies pedagogy.
- Commit to teaching students with limited background and those seeking further experience.
- Utilize assessment activities to evaluate student learning.
- Work with diverse cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds and veterans.
- Remain current in Ethnic and Gender Studies theories and pedagogy.
- Support diversity through culturally responsive teaching and resource use.
- Foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
- Demonstrate commitment to Olympic College’s mission and diversity.
- Incorporate accessibility accommodations into course materials.
- Communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
- Use technology and the College‑approved LMS.
- Uphold Olympic College’s values and ethics.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino/x Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicano/x Studies, Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, American Indian Studies, Indigenous Studies, Oceania and Pacific Islander Studies, or a directly related area.
- Teaching experience.
- Availability to teach during the day.
- Ph. D. in Ethnic Studies, Indigenous Studies, Gender Studies, or related field.
- College teaching experience.
Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to Human Resources within 30 days of employment. Salary is determined by qualifications and credits. This is an adjunct faculty position contracted quarterly and reviewed on a quarter‑by‑quarter basis.
Adjuncts are eligible for benefits after meeting a 50 % full‑time load for two consecutive quarters.
