Adult Basic Studies / ESOL Adjunct Faculty. Salary: $1,000 per credit. Classification:
Adjunct Faculty.

Reports to:

Associate Dean of Transitional Studies.

Olympic College is continuously seeking skilled Transitional Studies adjunct faculty to fill available positions within the program:
Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). These positions provide individualized and/or group instruction to Transitional Studies students with a wide range of academic and career goals. Faculty will assist in program development that ensures implementation and compliance with state and federal policies and grant regulations and lead adjunct faculty in developing curricula that support the College's mission and values, as well as the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS).

Work sites may vary between the Bremerton, Shelton, or Poulsbo campuses. This is a part‑time adjunct faculty position. Teaching assignments are in-person with synchronous hybrid/hy‑flex component.

Essential Functions
  • Teach all levels of Transitional skills in adult education (ABE, GED preparation, and High School+), including computer and work readiness skills.
  • Teach all levels of ESOL in adult education, including computer and work readiness skills.
  • Administer Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) Appraisal, Pre‑tests, and Post‑tests, and collect, submit, and analyze data for program reporting in the Web‑based Adult Transitional Education Reporting System (WABERS).
  • Collaborate with other instructors in developing courses and curricula.
  • Manage record keeping complying with federal and state requirements.
  • Consult with students and assist all students in setting, documenting, and monitoring progress toward meaningful personal and educational goals.
  • Provide quality teaching including related preparation and grading.
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested.
  • Maintain accurate records of students and complete forms as required.
  • Attend quarterly or more frequently transitional studies meetings.
  • Maintain current knowledge within the appropriate discipline and within the teaching profession.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the community college mission, diversity, and a learning‑centered climate.
  • May require evening instruction.
  • This position is considered to be a hybrid position.
  • Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Adult/Developmental Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field.
  • Intermediate‑level computer competency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent English speaking, writing, listening, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with integrated and/or contextualized basic skills instruction.
  • Demonstrate ability to use technologies commonly used in instruction and office environments, including the ability to effectively use learning management systems in all class modalities.
  • Demonstrate success teaching in face‑to‑face, online and hybrid environments.
  • Demonstrate interest and ability to work successfully with students, staff, and the community.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrate experience facilitating the success of students who represent a broad range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Uphold Olympic College’s values and ethics necessary to foster a climate of respectful, open, and honest discourse.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Adult/Developmental Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching students from a range of countries, including both immigrants/refugees and international students in the community college environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how varied cultural perspectives affect learning and communication.
