Position: 1.0 Lead Custodian (SHS)
To perform a full range of custodial duties and lead a crew's (when applicable) day-to-day activities related to the care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of assigned buildings and facilities. Ensures that the other custodial staff in his/her building are trained to meet or exceed the building cleaning standards.
Responsibilities
1. Manage and approve all custodial supplies ordering. Ensure proper chemicals are being ordered and help custodians understand proper ordering procedures.2. Facilitate the day-to-day activities of custodians and train them on how to perform all duties in their job description to ensure that all proper cleaning techniques and practices are being followed to keep the building clean and safe.3. Clean, disinfect and deodorize restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals, and toilets; maintain fixtures and replenish supplies in restrooms.4. Clean and sanitize all drinking fountains.5. Regularly inspect schools and report back to principals and Director of Facilities the condition of the facilities, specifically noting deficiencies in order to work together to create an action plan to correct them.6. Clean, sanitize, and deodorize the cafeteria or other common areas where students eat meals.7. Empty and clean waste receptacles.8. Manage implementation of work order system for custodians. Ensure system is being used.9. Monitor outside grounds conditions and cleanliness; empty waste receptacles.10. Identify and correct or fix any building safety hazards.11. Secure facilities after working hours.12. May be assigned to other buildings in the absence of other custodians.13. Plan holiday and summer cleaning projects and schedules with the building principal.14. Sweep, vacuum, mop, max, strip and polish floors using a variety of chemicals, cleansers and equipment, vacuum and shampoo carpets and upholstered furniture.15. Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment; wash windows, mirrors, walls and ceilings.16. Move and arrange furniture and equipment and set up rooms for meetings and special functions.17. Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.18. Maintain custodial equipment in proper working conditions and manage the custodial equipment inventory and conduct all repairs as needed.19. During the summer or other breaks throughout the year, deep clean buildings.20. Assist in the snow removal from sidewalks or other areas surrounding the buildings.21. Report on work on time and accurately record time worked; may need to adjust work schedule due to weather conditions, emergencies or other work related projects; work overtime as needed.22. Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.23. Use a variety of custodial equipment, supplies and materials.24. Independently perform the most difficult custodial work.25. Understand and follow oral and written directions as well as cleaning chemical mixture and application directions.26. Demonstrates the commitment to build and maintain a safe, fair and respectful working and learning environment that honors the cultural diversity of students and staff.27.
