This job provides care to inmates at the assigned correctional center within the framework of the Licensed Practical Nurse Act. Demonstrates professional responsibilities performed with a deputy present and is responsible for own practice.

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Required:

1 year of relevant experience.

• Required - Current licensed practical nurse (LPN) license in state of practice.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.

• Excellent organizational and good time management skills and ability to be self-directed and demonstrate good judgement.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

• Administers medication to inmates.
• Obtains medical history for new inmates.
• Assesses new symptoms in triage.
• Treats symptoms based on physician protocol.
• Provides simple wound care as needed.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Frequent exertion of 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally up to 100 pounds.
• Exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
• Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste.
