The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at Ochsner Health administers anesthesia to patients during surgical, obstetrical, and other pain‑producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. The position operates in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff.
Education- Master’s degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
- Required – None.
- License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
- Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
- Document patient procedures and incidents.
- Assess patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia.
- Ensure patient safety and administer anesthesia following accepted practice techniques.
- Act as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co‑workers, patients, and families.
- Participate in department quality assurance initiatives and professional development activities.
- Adapt interactions to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and communicating clearly.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Remain knowledgeable of current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements; ensure compliance with all such laws and the employer’s Compliance & Privacy Program.
Medium work: lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and 10‑25 pounds frequently; ability to stand for prolonged periods; exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and hazardous medications or waste. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
