Job Summary

The LPN Clinic is responsible for providing patient care following established standards and practices. Assists physician, nurse, and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and patient access. Coordinates patient flow, schedules appointments, procedures, tests and referrals. May serve as a preceptor for clinical staff. Relies on guidelines to accomplish tasks. Relies on some experience and judgment to complete job.

Works under general supervision. May lead and direct the work of others within scope of practice.

  • TECHNICAL TASKS
  • Ability to triage calls including determine appropriate medical decision making, i.e., divert to Emergency Department, STEP IN clinic, or PCP.
  • Demonstrates competency and accuracy in all work tasks.
  • Courteously answers telephone, properly routing calls, charting appropriately in EMR including information given and received. Takes complete and accurate messages as required.
  • Helps to assess the medical and nursing care rendered by self and others within the practice, identifying any need for improvement and communicates this information to superiors.
  • Uses appropriate triage protocols via EMR to guide for the appropriate care of patients in conformance with all policies and procedures.
  • Takes responsibility for improving technical skills, critical thinking and interpersonal relationship skills, as needed.
  • Fills in and assists other office staff members during their absence or workload surges.
  • CRITICAL THINKING
  • Responsible for accurate and timely completion of all nursing duties scheduled during the shift without interference to the quality of work.
  • Uses interpersonal or communication skills with individuals to achieve desired or acceptable patient outcomes/responses and/or a perception of satisfaction; maintains forthright and honest behavior at all times.
  • Uses appropriate internal and external resources to resolve, meet or exceed patient and family health care needs.
  • Assures delivery of quality patient care from problem identification to assessment of patient health status.
  • Effectively plans the use of time at work, sets priorities, assists others as necessary, and is creative in using extra time.
  • Inspires confidence from patients, visitors and families by performing and communicating in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of corporate policies regarding fire and safety, handling hazardous materials (if applicable) and infection control.
  • Explains to the patient and, if necessary, their family members, the therapy, tests and/or treatments planned for them.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills by assessing situations, considering alternatives, and choosing appropriate actions.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS
  • Is willing to align with the mission and values of STEP; participates in committees, implements planned changes, and reports suggestions for positive changes to leadership.
  • Maintains a comfortable, orderly, safe, clean and private patient care environment.
  • Participates in orientation of new personnel as required.
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport and cooperation with other office staff.
  • Greets patients, family members and visitors in a friendly, courteous manner with empathy and professionalism.
Other Duties
  • Is willing to take on other responsibilities when needed by the organization.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of Accredited LPN program.
  • Current Louisiana License as LPN and BLS Certification
