The SMT In-Process AOI Inspector – Level 1 will perform visual, electrical, and dimensional inspections of printed circuit board assemblies and will be responsible for daily inspections to assure compliance with manufacturing traveler, engineering drawings, bill of materials, process specific instructions, critical criteria, IPC standards (IPC-610, J-STD-001, Class
2), and other applicable documents. The inspector will be utilizing AOI equipment for the first articles, monitoring the line, and production runs for inspection operations utilizing 2D AOI equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for setup and operation of 2D AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) machines.
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of printed circuit board assemblies to ensure workmanship that complies with the appropriate requirements from engineering drawings, process specifications, industry standards (IPC-610, J-STD-001), and customer-specific criteria.
  • Uses precision measuring instruments such as smart tweezers and calipers and pin gauges to determine adherence to electrical and dimensional specifications on first articles, in-process inspections, and production runs.
  • Ability to operate equipment in a fast-paced electro-mechanical production environment.
  • Communicate the defects not captured by equipment to responsible personnel for enhancement of program integrity.
  • Communicate to assembly operators any of the defects being noted during the AOI operations so that corrections can be quickly implemented.
  • Perform and record results of first article inspections and in-process inspections of assemblies and input data into the associated database.
  • Understands rules and requirements for proper handling of electronic components:
    Electrostatic Static Discharge (ESD) while adhering to all ESD & handling requirements.
  • Properly handle and dispose of all waste, including hazardous wastes that are generated in daily operations while maintaining the cleanliness of the work area.
  • General understanding of FOD and 6S.
COMMUNICATION
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, procedures, instructions, operation manuals, safety rules, etc.
  • Must have interpersonal and language skills necessary to deal with people at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to understand basic reports relating to this department.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in electronics assembly manufacturing or similar industry
  • Knowledge of Automated Optical Inspection equipment and procedures
  • Comprehension of IPC-610 and J-STD-001 standards
  • Must understand how electronic components are oriented and be able to distinguish the different part numbers
  • Ability to interpret Engineering Documentation and work instructions
  • Language Skills Ability to effectively communicate in English both in writing and verbally at the general business level
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, instructions, operation manuals, safety rules, etc.
  • Technical Skills 1 year of experience in a regulated industry such as ISO
    9001, AS9100 or ISO
    13485
  • 3 years of Electronic Manufacturing
  • Experience operating Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) machine
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, specifications and PCB gerbers
  • Skilled in electrically measuring resistors and capacitors
  • Expertise in reading component values by inspecting parts
  • Knowledge of various computer programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Adobe)
  • Reasoning Ability Ability to analyze and solve complex problems, manage multiple tasks given in written and oral form
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Certified CIS (IPC-610) preferred but not required for Class 2 work

  • Adequate physical mobility to go out onto the production floor to collect samples, communicate with floor personnel, etc.
