The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future Police Officer Recruit vacancies. Under immediate supervision, attends a Peace Officers Standards and Training approved basic police academy; and performs other related duties as assigned. This is a non-safety trainee position. Promotion to Police Officer is contingent upon successful completion of the basic academy and the recommendation of the Police Chief. During training, incumbents do not have police powers, but are subject to the rules and regulations of the Brea Police Department and the police academy attended.
General supervision is provided by a member of the Brea Police Department Field Training Officer Team.

Attends a Peace Officers Standards and Training approved basic police academy which includes classroom and field training.
May be assigned non-safety duties in the Brea Police Department.
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. A typical combination is:
No directly related experience is required. Graduation from high school or the G.E.D. equivalent.

The selection process shall consist of four phases:
Phase One - Written Exam:
Candidates must submit a written test score in order to qualify for this position. Candidates may submit a P.O.S.T. PELLET-B T-Score (minimum T-45 - dated within one year of application) along with their application, or take the Frontline Exam with National Testing Network - to schedule an exam date, please visit
Phase Two - Application Review:
The second phase of the selection process shall be a detailed review and appraisal of each candidate's application. Those candidates determined to be most qualified on the basis of education and experience, as submitted, may be invited to participate in the next phase of the selection process. No weight shall be assigned to this phase of the selection process.
Phase Three - Oral Appraisal Interview:
Candidates who receive a passing score on this phase shall move to the next phase of the selection process.
Phase Four - Physical Agility Exam:
Candidates who receive a passing score on this phase shall have their name placed on the Eligibility List for Police Officer Recruit. Eligibility Lists are generally valid for one year. Once the list is established, the Police Department may conduct follow-up assessments.
