Position Overview
Current part time vacancies are for year-round, 10-25 hours per week (hours may vary depending on program and season) for Recreation Services - Day Camp, After School, Teen Programs, and Youth Sports. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be utilized for future Senior Community Services Leader vacancies.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsSenior Community Services Leader – a broad part-time classification used for assignment to a variety of specialized programs such as recreation services, human services, and cultural arts. Positions in this classification are flexibly staffed and may be filled by advancement from the lower classification of Community Services Leader, or may be filled from outside the agency. Appointment to a higher classification requires that the employee performs the full range of duties and meets or exceeds the qualification standards for the classification.
Work in this classification is distinguished from that of Community Services Leader by the greater complexity of the assignment received, by the greater independence with which the employee is expected to operate, and by the employee’s supervision of the assigned program and subordinate personnel.
Minimum supervision is provided by the Community Services Coordinator or higher-level personnel. Exercises some supervision over subordinate personnel.
Example DutiesGeneral
- Assist in the planning, organization, supervision, and implementation of a defined community services program or service; conduct portions of assigned programs with direction.
- Assist in the delivery of community special events and/or services.
- Assist and instruct program participants within program guidelines.
- Provide quality customer service and communication to internal and external customers.
- Perform a wide variety of cleaning, maintenance, and minor repair tasks as needed by assignment.
Recreation Services (Day Camp, After School & Teen Programs, Kid Watch, Tiny Tots, Youth and Adult Sports, Operations, Fitness)
- Direct, monitor, conduct, and instruct recreational games and activities.
- Teach fundamentals of organized activity and sportsmanship.
- Explain, demonstrate and conduct games and activities.
- Assist in the instruction of pre‑school and school age children in a classroom setting.
- Set‑up, prepare and dismantle the day camp, day camp rooms, games and activities.
- Set‑up fields or courts; officiate games; and keep score.
- Assist in set‑up and design of classroom for pre‑school instruction.
Senior Community Services Leader – additional duties
- Plan program activities and curriculum in youth programs.
- Supervise programs, facilities, rooms, fields, courts, subordinate staff, volunteers, and participants as needed by assignment.
- Provide administrative support for programs as needed by assignment.
- Communicate via phone, email, and in person with the general public.
Experience and Education – To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position.
Experience
A typical combination is two years of part‑time, or two summers of full‑time responsible experience in a recreational or community‑based program or a related program area or service, preferably including public contact, paid or non‑paid.
Education
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (as required per program).
