Environmental Engineer, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
BASIC FUNCTION:
This position reports to the Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator and the Assistant Chief Operator. Understands direction, operates and plans for the safe, efficient and effective operation of the Water Treatment Plant facility.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:- Operates and understands the functions of the Water Treatment Plant and its components.
- Operate and understand the functions of the Supervisory Control Data Acquisition System (SCADA) and related computer systems.
- Prepare oral and written reports to the supervisor and other operators.
- Communicate and work effectively with supervisors, staff, regulatory agencies and the public.
- Respond and assist in emergency situations related to water treatment operations.
- May be required to work weekends, holidays, and night shift.
- Performs related work as required and assigned.

KNOWLEDGEAND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of water laboratory analysis and testing methods practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of process control, State and Federal reporting practices.
- Knowledge of principles of plumbing, electrical and hydraulics and related troubleshooting methods.
- Knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, methods and procedures associated with maintenance, repair, inspection, and servicing of water treatment plant facilities.
- Knowledge of work safety rules and procedures.
- Ability to perform advanced water treatment plant process control calculations.
- Ability to evaluate laboratory analysis procedures and test results for compliance with State and Federal standards.
- Communicate and work cooperatively with subordinates, management, vendors, and the general public.
- Ability to understand and configure SCADA systems.
Education and Experience
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a water treatment facility.
- Possession of a California Water Treatment Operator Grade III certification. An applicant with a Water Treatment Operator Grade II certification would be considered if the applicant has the ability to obtain the Grade III certification within the first 18 months of employment.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.

- This position frequently is required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell.
- At times, this position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
