Basic Function

The Police Youth Program Assistant is a part‑time position responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of youth engagement programs offered by the Brawley Police Department, such as the MLS GO Soccer Program, Esports Academy, Brawley PD Football Club, Explorers and the Brawley Police Boxing Academy. Under the direction of the Police Youth Program Coordinator, the Assistant helps with coaching, mentoring, program setup, registration, and event execution.

This position may also be assigned to coach and supervise part‑time coaches or advisors as needed, ensuring the quality and safety of youth programming.

Representative Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing youth program activities, practices, competitions, clinics, and special events.
  • Coach youth participants and provide direct mentorship in program activities as assigned.
  • Supervise part‑time coaches or program advisors as needed to maintain structure, safety, and program quality.
  • Support participant registration, attendance tracking, and uniform/equipment distribution.
  • Assist with administrative duties and with setup and breakdown of facilities, fields, or equipment for program activities.
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for youth and staff.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, and positive behavior among participants.
  • Provide basic instruction, guidance, and encouragement to youth based on program goals.
  • Support communication with parents and families about schedules and expectations.
  • Assist with outreach efforts, special events, and public engagement activities.
  • Coordinate with other staff, volunteers, and community partners as directed by the Police Youth Program Coordinator.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience in youth development, coaching, or recreational leadership.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to lead, coach, and supervise others in a team setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with youth and families.
  • Basic knowledge of sports, recreation, or educational programming.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to follow direction with minimal supervision.
Other Requirements
  • Must pass a background investigation, Live Scan, and drug screening.
  • You must possess a valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends during program activities and community events.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
Supplemental Information Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This role includes both indoor and outdoor work at parks, gyms, schools, and police department facilities. Physical activity is required, including lifting equipment, walking, standing for extended periods, and participating in sports or recreation‑related tasks.

Disaster Service Workers

Under California Government Code Sections 3100–3109, all public employees are designated as disaster service workers and are required to participate in such disaster service activities as may be assigned by their employer or by law. The employees working for the City of Brawley take this responsibility seriously. Disaster plans are continuously evaluated, drills are scheduled, and employees engage in training to practice emergency support services.
