Overview

Basic Function:
Administer pre-hospital emergency medical care to sick or injured persons. Transport people in non-emergency situations as needed. Work as a member of an emergency medical team.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Practice
    • Interact on a professional level with patients, their families, hospital staff, general public and other Public Safety Agencies, providing quality customer service at all times.
    • Protect and maintain the confidentiality of any and all information related to patient care activities and information related to internal agency operations.
    • Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of clinical practice and new developments in the field, including agency policies and procedures.
    • Operate all agency-assigned vehicles under control at all times in accordance with all federal, state and local laws governing vehicle operation.
    • Comply with approved agency policy regarding Emergency Vehicle Operations Program.
  • Readiness
    • Maintain provider certification/license as stipulated by agency for medical practice.
    • Assist in the operational readiness of all assigned vehicles and equipment, including stock and inventory.
    • Maintain all vehicles and equipment consistent with agency standards and guidelines, including appropriate decontamination and infection control standards.
    • Assist in the appropriate use, care and maintenance of the agency’s physical plant, furnishings, and fixtures. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the service area. Be capable of utilizing preprinted and/or map-based directions for locating sites within the service area. Be aware of changes in roadways or points of access.
  • Documentation
    • Report on appropriate forms any malfunction, loss and/or damage to the physical plant, vehicles and equipment.
    • Complete all required patient documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Complete any other assigned documentation or incident reporting.
  • Organization Support
    • Interact on a professional level with co-workers and supervisors.
    • Comply with all safety regulations and procedures of the agency, including protection of self and others from risk of communicable diseases.
    • Support and promote the activities, goals and objectives of the agency.
  • Responsibilities Related to Patient Privacy
    • The provider is expected to protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with the agency’s privacy policies, procedures and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider. Failure to comply with the agency’s policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or membership or association with Rescue Inc.
  • Supervision Required
    • Clinical supervision from ALS providers.
    • Take overall direction from an agency officer. This position reports to the shift officer.
Qualifications
  • Experience
    • This is an entry-level position.
  • Education
    • High School degree and post-secondary vocational training.
  • Certification
    • Vermont, New Hampshire and National Registry certification/licensure (Rescue Inc. must be the primary service affiliation).
    • AHA BLS Healthcare Provider.
    • Driver’s license.
    • ICS 100, 200, 700.
    • Haz-mat Awareness.
    • CEVO.
    • Other agency-assigned training.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Must be able to safely load and transfer patients using a variety of transfer devices, maneuvering through hallways, up and down stairways, and other physical barriers as required.
    • Must be able to safely lift 125 lbs. and carry it over variations in terrain. Demonstrate and be a model of good health and safety practices, within the organization and community. This includes continuing to meet the standards of the physical requirements for this position.
