Automation Technologist
Job Summary: We are hiring an Automation Technologist to work with one of our Military Defense Manufacturing clients in Brantford! Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Automation Technologist will be responsible for overseeing and delivering assigned projects throughout their full lifecycle. Collaboration with production, procurement, and other departments is essential to ensure all necessary information is obtained and correctly documented prior to final release.
Job Type: Full-time, permanent.
Job Location: Brantford, ON
Compensation Structure: 50k-60k per annum, depending on experience.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and direct the integration of technical activities necessary to satisfy new product and ECR requirements
- Design/build automation projects as required to support production
- Assist in building, planning, and testing new and existing products to specification
- Ensure all necessary product design documentation is created and maintained
- Establish accurate BOM and drawings that meet the engineering department’s standards
- Ensure products are assembled and tested to meet the specifications of our customer and are within Good Engineering Practices (GEP) Design
- Process ECR’s, ECN’s, NCM’s and DVR’s
- Assist purchasing to ensure that all purchased parts and material meet engineering requirements and specifications
- Resolve problems related to design, material, quality control, production processes and drawings
- Assist the procurement of tools/equipment required to allow production to manufacture product to specification
- Assist in the development of and maintenance of quality standards and procedures for the production and engineering department
- Pursue continuous improvement projects
- Follow standards and procedures for engineering and technical work performed in the department
- Continually look for better ways to perform daily activities
- Support safety initiatives and good housekeeping practices
- Ensure all quality policies and procedures are followed throughout the company
- Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma or related degree/trade certificate; preferred APEO Certification
- Knowledge of automation hardware/software including motor control, PLC’s, pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanical systems, sensors, motion control
- Knowledge of CNC concepts and G/M code programming
- Programming languages such as C, Python, Java
- Electrical design/CAD and troubleshooting
- Project Management experience
- Safety standards required automated machinery
- Metal fabrication and manufacturing production experience
- 2+ years’ experience with AutoCAD, Inventor or 3D Modelling software
- Strong knowledge of materials and structural design and analysis
- Strong organizational and creative problems solving skills
- Effective communicator with the ability to coach and mentor others
- Self‑motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Must qualify for security clearance for a controlled goods company
