The Opportunity:
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and adaptable Application / Design Engineer to join their team. This role plays a key part in supporting sales, design, and project execution - particularly within demanding environments such as mining and wear applications. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a lean organization, be flexible in their approach, and willing to travel as needed to support bids, site visits, and project execution.
WhatYou’ll Be Doing:
- Develop new product concepts and designs to support sales teams and distributors with practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Manage the design process from concept through manufacturing, ensuring designs are manufacturable, practical, and financially viable.
- Support sales efforts on complex bids, including preparing technical documentation and participating in client presentations when required.
- Travel to project sites (e.g., Oil Sands and other client locations) to assist with measurements, reverse engineering, bid preparation, and project execution.
- Provide front-end technical support to new and existing distributors, helping them understand product capabilities and applications.
- Coordinate and manage design-related projects with third parties, including estimating and ongoing project oversight.
- Act as a liaison with manufacturing teams, supporting material selection, fabrication coordination, and installation considerations.
- Perform QA/QC checks to ensure designs meet quality and manufacturing standards.
- Modify and improve existing designs based on client requirements and performance feedback.
- Proficiency in CAD software, with hands-on experience using:
Fusion for 3D modeling and AutoCAD for 2D drafting. - Strong, practical understanding of engineering principles related to welding and fabrication.
- Ability to estimate costs and evaluate the financial viability of designs.
- Willingness and ability to work fully on-site in a highly collaborative environment.
- Availability to travel as required for project management, site visits, and sales support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal teams, distributors, fabricators, and clients.
- A flexible mindset suited to a lean organization.
- Engineering Technician / College Diploma.
- Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering backgrounds would be an asset.
- Experience in mining, wear (WE) applications, or harsh industrial environments.
Compensation Range: $90,000 – $110,000 annually.
