Job Purpose

In keeping a tradition of excellence, the purpose of the Preschool Evaluator and Coordinator of SLPs is to assist the Preschool Coordinator in all areas of Preschool Special Education services, to evaluate preschool students who have been referred for Special Education Services, and to manage the school based Language Speech Pathologists across the district. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Initiate and/or participate in MET meetings and help determine if a preschooler is in need of a comprehensive assessment
  • Responsible for explaining the evaluation process to parents and answering questions parents may have about the evaluation if needed
  • Work with Head Start Program Directors and staff, preschools, daycares, & private school parents to schedule assessments for preschoolers/school age students within the Rankin County community
  • Perform preschool (3-5 years) comprehensive assessments & reevaluations, which include evaluating developmental areas of physical, self-help, social/emotional, cognitive, and language, as well as, the speech areas of voice, fluency, and articulation
  • Perform private school/homeschool (Kg-12th gr.) evaluations to determine if a child is eligible for speech services in the areas of articulation, fluency, or voice
  • Write preschool & private school assessment reports
  • Update student information & upload into Special Education student database to allow appropriate personnel access to the students' Individualized Education Programs
  • Contact private school and preschool parents to answer questions and schedule Eligibility meetings, including sending necessary notices and drafts to parents before the meetings
  • Provide and discuss evaluation results with preschool/private school service providers (Speech Pathologists & Special Education Teachers)
  • Attend Eligibility and IEP meetings with parents and Special Education service providers to discuss evaluation results, determine eligibility, and discuss the IEP
  • Travel to preschools and daycares throughout the district for evaluation purposes
  • Manage all school based Language Speech Therapists across the district
  • Serve as primary contact for all speech/language issues or concerns
  • Provide training and professional development as warranted or directed by the Special Education Director to all speech/language therapists
  • Observe therapy and evaluate practices therapists annually, and work cooperatively with the building administrator to address concerns, and/or results of evaluations
  • Disseminate district policy and procedure, as well as other pertinent information to Language Speech Pathologists across the district
  • Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees
  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development, for keeping current with literature, new research findings, for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences, and to maintain any credits and/or continued education for maintenance of licensure/qualifications required for the position
  • Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
  • Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Regular, dependable, in person, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy
