DME Medical Assistant - Brandon Urgent Care

Position Summary: This position is responsible for providing orthopedic care by following best medical practices to deliver a high volume of acute orthopedic care and to optimize the provider—patient contact time. They will ensure all patients are prepared prior to seeing the physician and that patients understand their condition, participate in their care, receive all appropriate information, scripts, casting or DME products, patient education materials, and other items to adhere to the care plan per the provider’s instructions and protocols.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required
  • Medical Assistant Diploma, or RMA Certification required
  • Current BLS Certification (or must complete within 30 days of employment)
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency with EMRs
  • Meet the expectations of internal and external customer service standards
  • Ability to perform tasks independently with the direction of managers
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, and coworkers
  • Prepare patient charts in Athena for visit by ensuring intake paperwork is completed
  • Retrieve patient’s digital images from Medview system for physician review
  • Escort patients into exam rooms and complete patient intake documentation per protocol
  • Prepare patients for visits by removing sutures/staples/dressings, assisting patient changes, positioning for exam or procedure, and completing necessary consents
  • Assist the physician during visits with injections or office procedures
  • Apply and remove casts/splints and DME as ordered by the provider
  • Provide patients with information and education on proper use and care of casts and DME
  • Complete documentation in EMR for casting or DME as necessary
  • Prepare prescriptions, excuse notes, referrals, and patient education materials
  • Ensure patient understands physician instructions for sample medications and follow-up care
  • Complete DCW
    25 workers’ comp status forms and coordinate with front desk and WC department
  • Dispose of PHI appropriately, complete and scan patient forms and records
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and cast room, replace red bags and sharps boxes as applicable, and wipe treatment surfaces after each patient and at end of shift
  • Restock exam rooms and MA station for the next day
  • Ensure the safety and security of all PHI in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Handle phone calls from patients or other departments and assist in EMR inbox items
  • All other duties as assigned
