Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in Psychiatric Nursing (e.g., BScMH, BScPN) or
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse with related experience may be considered.
  • Active practicing licensure with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Manitoba.
  • Current certification:
  • ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
  • NVCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention)
  • Co-Occurring Disorder training
  • A minimum of three (3) years within the past five (5) years of relevant clinical experience in mental health
  • Experience in applying ECT, rTMS, and IV Ketamine protocols.
  • Demonstrated background in clinical resource and coordination.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Training as delineated in Prairie Mountain Health Policy PPG-00002 CPR Training
  • Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, or equivalent from province of residence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
  • Actively participates in professional development and activity in a professional association

Position Summary

The Interventional Psychiatry Nurse (Nurse III) is a clinical nursing role within Prairie Mountain Health, responsible for the coordination, delivery, knowledge resource, and advancement of interventional psychiatric services across the region. This role supports the delivery of evidence‑based and emerging psychiatric treatments, including Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), Intravenous Ketamine, and other novel interventions.

The incumbent functions as a clinical resource, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and standardised care. This emphasises clinical coordination, staff resources, and quality improvement in interventional psychiatry.

The incumbent will have knowledge of adult learning and ability to teach individuals and groups effectively. They will also have knowledge, competence and aptitude for working with this specific patient population (treatment‑resistant depression, post‑traumatic stress disorder etc.).

The Interventional Psychiatry Nurse (Nurse III) recognise and fulfil their professional responsibilities by practising in a manner consistent with professional obligations to take actions as per the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses, The College of Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Psychiatric Nursing Practice, and the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act, and other provincial and federal legislation.

Responsibilities

Clinical Coordination & Expertise
  • Coordinate regional interventional psychiatry services, ensuring consistency and adherence to clinical standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in ECT, rTMS, IV Ketamine, and other emerging therapies.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, anaesthesiologists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to optimise care delivery.
  • Support the development and implementation of clinical protocols and guidelines.
Education & Professional Development
  • Develop and deliver training and orientation programmes for nursing and allied health staff involved in interventional psychiatry.
  • Mentor staff and students, fostering clinical competence and confidence in psychiatric interventions.
  • Promote ongoing professional development and knowledge translation through workshops, in‑services, and journal reviews.
Quality & Safety
  • Participate in regional quality improvement initiatives related to interventional psychiatry.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and safety indicators, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical, regulatory, and safety standards in all interventional procedures.
