Responsibilities- Supervise the end-to-end handling of STD and WCB claims, ensuring timely reporting, investigation, and resolution.
- Review claim files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legislation and company policy.
- Approve claim decisions, escalations, and settlements within authority limits.
- Monitor claim costs and identify opportunities to reduce financial exposure.
- Ensure adherence to applicable WCB legislation, provincial OHS requirements, insurance policies, and internal procedures.
- Maintain accurate claims records and documentation for audits and inspections.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly claims performance reports, trend analysis, and cost projections for leadership.
- Lead, coach, and mentor claims coordinators or administrators.
- Allocate workload, monitor productivity, and provide training on claims processes and legislative updates.
- Foster a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with HR, operations, and safety teams to coordinate early and safe return-to-work plans.
- Engage with healthcare providers and WCB case managers to support modified duties or accommodations.
- Track and monitor return-to-work outcomes for continuous improvement.
- Act as the primary liaison between the company, employees, WCB, insurers, and other stakeholders.
- Respond to employee inquiries with professionalism, empathy, and clarity.
- Provide guidance to management teams on claim handling and prevention strategies.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, Disability Management, or related field (CDMP/CRTWC designation an asset).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in STD and/or WCB claims management, with supervisory experience preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of WCB legislation and disability management best practices across multiple provinces.
- Strong analytical skills for claim review, cost tracking, and trend analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations confidentially.
- Proficiency in claims management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
