Overview
Families First Home Visitors are Public Health Staff whose skill lies in building secure attachment relationships between parent and child. Families First Home Visitors work within their scope to help families reach their goals. When further assistance is needed, Families First Home Visitors support families to make self-referrals to appropriate staff or agencies. They communicate their observations and interventions to Public Health Nurses, who function as case managers for the family.
The Families First Home Visitor receives program supervision from designated Public Health Nurse, Families First Coordinators.
- To assist families to ensure the physical health and safety of their children.
- To enable parents to enhance their parenting skills and to foster the development of a secure attachment with their children.
- To support parents in their role of nurturing their children and providing appropriate physical, social and cognitive stimulation.
- To facilitate the parents’ connections with community resources and to assist them in developing a sense of belonging.
- Grade 12 education (MB Standards)
- Minimum one (1) year experience working with families facing multiple challenges
- Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Ability to adapt to a work environment within an organization that embraces change
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
- Knowledge of early childhood growth and development in children aged 0-6 years
- Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
- Demonstrated communication skills
- Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures
- Ability to display independent judgment
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
- Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
- Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis
