Your Job

As a Process Safety Specialist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe working environment by assessing potential hazards, implementing safety measures, and promoting a culture of safety within the organization. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks associated with various processes and operations.

Our Team

Koch Fertilizer Canada in Brandon is one of the major fertilizer production sites within Koch, producing a wide range of nitrogen‑based products for agricultural and industrial use. The facility includes multiple production units and a large, dedicated team focused on safe, reliable operations. What You Will Do

  • Conduct process hazard analyses (PHA) and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance teams to ensure that safety considerations are integrated into the design, installation, and maintenance of equipment and processes.
  • Review and update process safety documentation/information.
  • Develop and deliver process safety training programs for employees at all levels, emphasizing safe operating practices and awareness of potential hazards.
  • Participate in pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR) for new or modified processes to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of process safety management systems and recommend improvements.
  • Stay current with industry regulations, codes, and best practices related to process safety.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to teams working on process-related projects.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and participate in regulatory inspections and audits.
  • 10% travel
  • Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Knowledge of industrial/manufacturing process safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Experience with process hazard analysis techniques such as HAZOP and LOPA for risk assessment.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating process safety risks.
  • What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, safety engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPSC) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Experience using software tools, such as exSILentia or Kenexis or a similar software, and systems to manage process safety documentation and data.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment covered by PSM
