Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer
Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to take a lead role in driving systems engineering deliverables and processes. In this position, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including electrical, mechanical, software, and airworthiness engineers, as well as product managers, program managers, and customers—to ensure on-time delivery of advanced avionics products.
This role offers the opportunity to grow as a subject matter expert (SME), lead initiatives, and innovate at the system level. The position can be based at either our Kelowna, BC or Ottawa, ON office.
Key Responsibilities- Lead system-level design and architecture of avionics products.
- Prepare, review, and support proposal compliance matrices.
- Author, review, and maintain system requirements, compliance matrices, test plans, procedures, and reports.
- Develop and manage system safety deliverables (FHA, PSA, SSA, etc.).
- Deliver system documentation such as Interface Control Documents (ICDs), user guides, installation manuals, and drawings.
- Support hardware-software integration, debug, and SIL creation.
- Provide on-aircraft integration and support, including developmental and certification flight testing.
- Manage lifecycle upgrades while maintaining compliance with safety and airworthiness regulations.
- Collaborate with airworthiness authorities (EASA, TCCA, FAA) and produce required certification artefacts.
- Mentor team members, lead design reviews, audits, and system verification activities.
- Prepare and maintain documentation for certification and operational use.
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years in systems engineering, including at least 3 years in aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries.
- Strong knowledge of avionics integration, aerospace communication systems, and ground systems.
- Proficiency with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, RMSys).
- Experience with system safety assessment methodologies and relevant standards.
- Hands-on experience with Linux/Windows environments, networking, and system automation.
- Proficiency with system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Model Sim).
- Familiarity with interface standards and protocols: SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, RS422/485, ARINC
429, MIL-1553, PCIe. - Experience with microprocessors, FPGAs, memory devices, and related interfaces.
- Knowledge of hardware qualification testing per RTCA DO-160.
- Familiarity with aerospace standards such as DO-254, ARP
4754, DO-178, AS9100. - Experience in RF, DSP, and Satcom technologies (e.g., Iridium, GPS), including FCC/IC/CE compliance.
- Knowledge of MASPS, MOPS, and ICAO standards (e.g., DO-262, DO-343, ED-242, TSO-C159e, ETSI EN301 473, ISED RSS-170, FCC Part 25).
