Emterra Tire Recycling Ltd. is a proud division of Emterra Group and is a 100% Canadian, privately controlled company operating out of Brampton, Ontario. We haul and process used passenger, truck, industrial and agricultural tires. We are committed to preventing these end-of-life products from being disposed of in our landfills or littered on our natural landscapes. As a result of processing used tires, we have become a leading supplier of crumb rubber which can be transformed into many fantastic recycled products, such as road asphalt, playgrounds, and synthetic turf.
Position Summary
The Director of Operations oversees day-to-day plant at the Brampton tire processing and recycling facility. This onsite role leads the Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, and is accountable for keeping production equipment running, attaining highest thru-put and uptime, coordinating material flow, and ensuring timely maintenance and repair activities.
The Director works directly with the team to resolve operational issues, monitor production output, control downtime, quality control and maintain safe work practices. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental and occupational health and safety requirements, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and delivering operational results aligned with company targets for quality, cost control, and sustainability. This role is suitable for a hands on Leader who likes to be a part of the change.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational LeadershipLead day-to-day operations of the tire recycling and processing plant,Lead the maintenance team on improving uptime and ensure preventiveBe present, on the plant floor with a “hands on approach” to machinery and process improvement.Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to the operations, which includes active leadership of maintenance working with hauling, dispatch, and logistics teams.Develop and implement programs to optimize productivity, reduce cost and downtime, and improve overall plant efficiency. This included on the floor knowledge of machinery and process efficiency.Oversee procurement and inventory management for raw materials (tires), spare parts, and consumables.Manage relationships with waste tire suppliers, transportation partners, and oversee the sales and marketing plan to customers for end-product.Build relationships with key customers to find opportunities for collaboration and win-winHealth, Safety, and Environmental ComplianceEnsure full compliance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regulations, Ministry of Transportation, Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority (RPRA) guidelines, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and Ministry of Labour (MOL), requirements.Adhering to local fire regulations and fostering a strong, positive relationship with the local fire department are essential to ETR’s success.Champion a strong safety culture; oversee training, incident investigation, and corrective actions.People ManagementHave an active, “boots on the ground leadership style” when coaching and developing onsite leadership staff.Establish clear performance metrics, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Financial ManagementDevelop and manage the operations budget, including cost control, capital expenditures, and resource allocation.Monitor key financial indicators (e.g. cost per tonne of tires collected and processed, downtime, route efficiency, labour cost, and energy usage,) and implement efficiency improvements.Collaborate with finance to forecast and track production costs, revenue, and profitability.Strategic and Change Management Initiatives for Continuous ImprovementIdentify new technologies and process improvements to increase throughput, reduce energy consumption, and enhance material recovery rates.Support corporate strategy by providing insights on market trends, equipment upgrades, and capacity expansion opportunities.Stakeholder & Regulatory RelationsAct as…
