Senior Network Designer

Overview  Senior IP Network Designer role within Rogers Technology, focusing on designing, developing, testing, engineering, and evolving Packet Core platforms toward a cloud-native environment. Reports to the Manager, Engineering – Wireless Data Core.
What you will do   Own Dev Ops deliverables for wireless data core platforms, including design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
Design and deploy 5G Standalone Core (5GC) components: AMF, SMF, UPF, AUSF, UDM, UDR; and Evolved Packet Core (EPC): MME, PGW, SGW, HSS, ePDG.
Work with Cloud Native (Docker/Kubernetes) and hypervisor-based NFV environments; build and operate CNF/VNF platforms with container and VM life cycles, connectivity, and storage.
Automate workflows and lifecycle management for CNF/VNF platforms; perform end-to-end validation, troubleshooting, and KPI reporting.
Author engineering documents (Engineering Design Specifications, Acceptance Test Plans, Work Orders, and Procedures) to facilitate configuration changes and upgrades.
Assess technical requirements and provide engineering analysis, designs, and cost input for new services and platforms.
Manage vendor relationships, including quotes, scope of work, design specifications, acceptance tests, MOPs, and platform roadmaps.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Project Management, Network Operations, Network Planning, IT, Engineering, Technology Development) for end-to-end service integration.
Provide engineering input for deployments of new services/technology and perform lab design, implementation, and validation before production rollout.
Provide troubleshooting support to Operations and peer technical teams; conduct what-if simulations to assess impact of new services on the network.
Prepare management presentations and reports as required; contribute to a high-performance, collaborative team environment.
What you bring   Minimum 2+ years of hands-on cloud computing experience.
In-depth knowledge of Any-G Wireless Core: 5GC/LTE/3G call flows and 3

GPP architecture in large-scale carrier environments.
Working knowledge of 3

GPP, ETSI, and IEEE standards.

Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, microservices, edge computing, orchestration, CI/CD, and workflow automation in cloud environments.
Strong understanding of cloud concepts (virtualization, storage, containerization, IP networking, SDN, NFVI).
Hands-on experience with server infrastructure and network devices; troubleshooting in a telco cloud/IP networking environment.
Knowledge of IP networking protocols (e.g., HSRP, BGP, OSPF); scripting experience (Python/Ansible) is a plus.
Experience containerizing legacy applications into cloud-native functions.
Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, and/or GCP) are assets.

Experience with Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Jaeger, ELK/EFK stacks; SDN applicable to Wireless Packet Core.
University degree or equivalent in engineering/computer science.
