As the Specialty Physician Assistant under general direction of the clinical supervisor, you assume full responsibility in assessing, diagnosing, and treating those patients requiring sub-specialty treatment such as orthopedic, surgical, urological, and otolaryngological (ENT) care. Also includes working in an urgent care setting. You will work in a collaborative team practice that recognizes the patient as the central focus. You will support the physician in situations requiring physical assessment and complex communications with patients.
Serves as a patient educator in areas of specialization.
- Performs physical assessments on patients with specialized conditions in areas such as orthopedics, general surgery, urology, and ENT. Determines urgent versus emergent problems and triages patients to appropriate specialty physicians. Assesses and treats patients with support from other physician colleagues. May develop and implement a plan of care for these patients, as well as prescribe medications, exercises and/or other treatments
- Performs minor operative procedures including suturing and lesion excision. Orthopedic clinician should be proficient in cast application
- Collaborates with the physician in the management of patient care. Such support may include ordering and interpreting laboratory work and other diagnostic studies, assisting the physician in operative procedures, performing pre-operative histories and physical exams, and maintaining continuity of care through the exchange of
