About Us
People come to work for Habinteg because they believe in what matters to us. Inclusion drives all that we do, be that the services we offer to tenants, the environments we create or the homes we deliver. One in four people in this country are disabled but most homes are designed to exclude them. We believe in designing homes and creating neighbourhoods that everyone can share and enjoy.
We have 3300 homes across the country from Tyneside to Cornwall. We are champions of the Lifetime Homes Standard and provide expert training and consultancy through our Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) in-house team.
Habinteg is seeking a skilled and customer focused Repairs and Maintenance Technician to help deliver a high quality, responsive repairs and maintenance service across our housing stock.
In this role, you will carry out a wide range of day to day repairs and minor works, including carpentry, plumbing, fenestration, plastering, masonry and adaptations, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You will also undertake whole house property inspections, diagnose maintenance issues, capture stock condition data, and prepare schedules of work for larger repairs delivered by external contractors.
Working closely with the Senior Repairs Surveyor, you will support the effective delivery of regional maintenance services, identify risks and service improvements, and contribute to achieving performance targets for quality, cost, safety and customer satisfaction.
A key part of this role is delivering a tenant centred service, with a strong focus on inclusion, accessibility and respect for diversity. You will engage directly with tenants, minimise disruption during works, respond professionally to feedback or complaints, and help create safe, well maintained homes.
Health and Safety is central to the role. You will be responsible for completing risk assessments and method statements, working in line with legislation and Habinteg policies, and identifying safeguarding or property related risks.
About YouYou are a multi-skilled maintenance professional with strong practical experience across several trades and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. You take pride in your work, manage your time effectively, and are comfortable working independently across a regional patch.
You will bring:
- A sound understanding of Building Regulations, housing maintenance practices and building pathology
- Strong Health and Safety awareness, including CDM requirements and safe systems of work
- Proven practical skills in carpentry, plumbing, plastering and minor masonry, with the ability to diagnose and resolve repairs effectively
- Experience carrying out property inspections, stock condition data, and preparing basic schedules of work
- Confident using IT systems, tablets or mobile devices for inspections, reporting and record keeping
- A tenant focused, respectful and inclusive approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisation, time management and the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines and budgets
You will also have:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in carpentry or plumbing, plus training in a second trade to at least Level 2
- At least 5 years’ experience as a multi-skilled operative, ideally within social housing or a similar residential environment
- A full clean UK driving licence (minimum 3 years) and the ability to drive a medium sized van
- A willingness to undertake ongoing training and continuous professional development
Most importantly, you share Habinteg’s values and are committed to continuous improvement, professionalism, integrity and delivering high quality services that make a positive difference to tenants’ lives.
