The Client:
An established and highly respected design and manufacturing business is looking to appoint an Estimator to join its commercial team. The company delivers bespoke products and projects for a range of clients, combining design capability with in-house manufacturing expertise.
This is a key role within the business, focused on producing accurate and commercially sound cost estimates that support competitive pricing and protect project margins.
The Role
As Estimator, you will be responsible for producing detailed costings across a range of projects, working closely with internal teams including Design, Project Management and Account Management.
You will assess specifications and translate technical and manufacturing requirements into clear, reliable cost estimates, considering materials, components, production processes and labour requirements.
The role sits firmly within costing and estimating, rather than procurement, and requires a strong understanding of how products are designed, manufactured and assembled.
Key Responsibilities:
* Produce accurate cost estimates for bespoke manufactured products and projects
* Analyse drawings, specifications and project briefs to determine material and production costs
* Understand and factor in manufacturing processes, labour and component costs
* Work closely with Designers, Project Managers and Account Managers to refine project scope and costing
* Deliver reliable estimates within tight project timelines
* Ensure estimates support competitive pricing while protecting commercial margins
The Person :
We are looking for someone with practical manufacturing knowledge who can translate real production understanding into accurate costings.
You will likely have experience in an estimating or costing role within a manufacturing or precision engineering environment, and ideally have hands-on exposure to production or assembly processes earlier in your career.
Key attributes include:
* Experience in estimating or product costing within manufacturing
* Strong understanding of materials, components and production processes
* Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and manufacturing requirements
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
* Confident managing multiple inputs from internal stakeholders
Formal qualifications are not essential; practical experience and manufacturing knowledge are far more important.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 12 months, the successful candidate will develop a detailed understanding of the company’s products, manufacturing methods and installation processes, enabling them to deliver precise, reliable cost estimates that support project delivery and commercial decision-making
