A client within the Public Sector based in West Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Biodiversity Officer to join their Biodiversity Team (Planning, Transportation and Highways – Place Directorate) as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority planning and biodiversity environment.
The Role
Key purpose of the role:
Support the implementation of the Council’s Biodiversity Duty under the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006.
Provide specialist ecological advice and technical support to development management, development planning and other Council services.
Work with external agencies and partners to monitor, manage and promote biodiversity across the district.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Providing ecological consultation responses on planning applications, including major developments.
Advising on Biodiversity Net Gain, Habitat Regulations Assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment and Sustainability Appraisal.
Assessing ecological surveys and reports and recommending appropriate planning conditions.
Contributing to the designation and management of Local Wildlife Sites and Local Nature Reserves.
Undertaking habitat and protected species surveys, sometimes on difficult terrain.
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
A degree in Ecology or a related environmental discipline.
Eligibility for membership of CIEEM (Associate level or above).
Substantial experience in habitat and protected species survey and assessment within the UK.The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
Strong working knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and biodiversity policy.
Experience of Biodiversity Net Gain methodologies and UKHab survey standards.
Ability to write high-quality ecological reports and technical assessments.
Experience of working within a local authority or public sector environment.
Confident communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders.
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £21 per hour Umbrella LTD (Inside IR35) (approx. £17 per hour PAYE).
