Mechanical Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to support the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of a highly regulated COMAH chemical manufacturing site. The role ensures efficient operation of mechanical assets and utilities within a COMAH environment.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and manage work orders via SAP CMMS.
  • Respond to breakdowns, diagnose mechanical faults, and restore equipment efficiently.
  • Maintain mechanical assets, site utilities, and critical equipment including steam boilers, purified water systems, cooling towers, fire pumps, and deluge systems.
  • Work safely under permit-to-work systems (hot work, confined space, critical lifts, excavation).
  • Support cleanroom maintenance, calibration, and performance checks.
  • Update engineering drawings, SOPs, manuals, and maintenance records.
  • Participate in equipment qualification and small engineering improvement projects.
  • Ensure all work complies with GMP, COMAH, and ATEX requirements and is fully documented.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and quality teams to maintain compliance and site safety.
  • Participate in a 1-in-6 on‑call rota for out‑of‑hours breakdown support.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience working in a COMAH environment.
  • Comp Ex EX11 Mechanical (desirable).
  • Confined Space, Mechanical Jointing (M&B), IPAF/MEWP, and FLT certifications.
Required Skills
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with SAP CMMS or similar systems.
  • Ability to interpret and update engineering drawings.
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation standards.
  • Confident supporting audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
Preferred Skills
  • Hands‑on exposure to critical utilities and ATEX equipment.
