SEMH Learning Support Assistant (Primary) – BD2, Bradford

We’re working with a welcoming primary school in the BD2 area of Bradford who are seeking a caring, resilient, and empathetic Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with SEMH needs, who is also on a Child Protection Plan.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone who understands the importance of consistency, trust, and emotional safety. You’ll play a key role in helping the child feel secure, regulated, and ready to engage with learning, while working closely with school staff and external professionals.

Hours:

Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

What we’re looking for:

Experience working with children (professional or voluntary) – SEMH or safeguarding experience is highly desirable

A calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach

Confidence supporting children with challenging behaviour linked to trauma or unmet needs

Strong communication skills and the ability to build safe, trusting relationships

A clear understanding of professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities

Two recent references (work or education-based)

Your role will involve:

Providing 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with SEMH needs

Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement with learning

Creating a predictable, nurturing environment where the child feels safe and understood

Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and safeguarding team

Supporting transitions, routines, and positive behaviour strategies

Encouraging confidence, independence, and emotional resilience

Being a consistent, reliable, and positive role model

This role would suit someone with experience in education, youth work, care, psychology, or social care, or someone with strong transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children.
