Communications Technician
Location: 2101 47th Terrace East, Bradenton, Florida 34203
Work Hours: Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
Base Pay: $23.67 – $29.59 per hour
Working ConditionsIndoor/outdoor environment with high noise levels during certain tasks. Must lift up to 50 lb alone or 100 lb with assistance. Safety‑sensitive role requires successful pre‑employment and random substance screening.
Job Responsibilities (Essential Functions)- Install, repair, and maintain ATMS communications infrastructure.
- Investigate signal operational and general timing complaints.
- Inspect construction projects involving signal system infrastructure.
- Install, maintain, and repair CCTV cameras and ATMS components (fiber‑optic, Bluetooth, microwave detection, DMS, etc.).
- Participate in special engineering projects, including data collection and equipment evaluation.
- Respond to general traffic signal malfunctions after hours.
- Test repair and upgrade microprocessor‑based signal equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and system benchmarking.
- Review signal system logs and audit controller operational data.
- Maintain permanent vehicle count stations and assist with data management.
- Assist with construction of new or modification of existing signal systems.
- Perform related work, including weather or other extreme emergency duties.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience.
- Level II IMSA Traffic Signal Technician certification required.
- Valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class B (with air‑brake endorsement) or permit
obtained prior to employment, with license to be obtained within 120 days of hire. - Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Preferred: A.S. in Electronics or Information Technology, military or vocational electronics training, or IMSA Level III Technician certification.
- Understanding of traffic signal device installation, repair, and maintenance, including microprocessors and ATMS hardware.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions; ability to establish safe work zones on roadways and intersections.
- Physical capability: lift up to 50 lb, climb and descend equipment, work at heights up to 20 ft using lift truck.
- Finger dexterity and hand coordination for physical tasks.
- Skill in diagnosing equipment malfunctions and applying appropriate solutions.
- Basic computer operation and proficiency with related software.
