Overview

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides comprehensive care to patients with rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions, supporting the diagnosis, treatment, and management of chronic diseases such as arthritis, lupus, and vasculitis. This role works collaboratively with physicians and the clinical team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care through both direct patient management and clinical oversight of the infusion suite. The APRN will ensure optimal patient outcomes, promote efficiency in care delivery, and contribute to a professional and compassionate clinical environment

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including detailed medical histories, physical exams, and review of laboratory or imaging results.
  • Diagnose and manage rheumatologic conditions in accordance with established clinical guidelines and under the supervision or collaboration of a Rheumatologist.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans, including medication management, patient education, and lifestyle recommendations.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as blood work, X-rays, and MRIs as appropriate for patient care.
  • Provide education to patients and families on disease processes, treatment options, medication administration, and self-management techniques.
  • Evaluate and monitor treatment response and side effects, ensuring appropriate follow-up and documentation in the electronic medical record (Next Gen).
  • Collaborate with physicians, medical assistants, nurses, and infusion staff to ensure seamless coordination of patient care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for infusion nurses regarding biologic and IV medication administration, monitoring, and patient reactions.
  • Review and approve infusion treatment orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with physician protocols and payer requirements.
  • Participate in staff training, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical operations and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations, infection control standards, and all clinical policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current and unrestricted Florida APRN license;
    Rheumatology or Internal Medicine experience preferred.
  • National board certification (AANP or ANCC) in Family or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in rheumatology, internal medicine, or infusion therapy.
  • Strong clinical judgment with ability to assess, diagnose, and treat complex autoimmune conditions.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and patient education skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems (Next Gen experience preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and clinical compliance standards.
