Work Hours:
Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week with variable daytime, evening, and weekend hours
Expected Starting Salary Range: $80,143.32 - $
This classification performs high level administrative, managerial and professional duties in the Manatee County Public Library System, including direct organizational responsibility for several major Library functions.
Working ConditionsIndoor/Office environment; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 25 lbs. alone, and up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
Job Description Essential Functions- Coordinates and manages the operations of numerous facilities.
- Assists in the development, upgrading, and subsequent evaluation of library policies, procedures, service models and programs.
- Implements and communicates administrative decisions, directives, and policies to library staff and the general public.
- Assures internal alignment with policies and procedures.
- Assists in formulating and reviewing system-wide short term and long-range services, goals, and priorities.
- Acts on County Librarian s behalf in his/her absence.
- Maintains familiarity with County initiatives and goals.
- Handles interviews with local press, and requests for information regarding library services and programs.
- Performs public speaking as needed at community engagements.
- Participates in supervisory, general staff, and various board meetings.
- Assists County Librarian with development and adjustments to budget. Prepares monthly, special statistical and narrative reports with analysis as required.
- May create other written documents such as award nominations, reports, policy and procedures.
- Performs managerial, administrative, and professional duties related to the management and operations of branch libraries.
- Directs and evaluates supervisory staff.
- Provides fiscal, work order, and timecard authority.
- Assesses community needs and collaborates with community agencies and organizations. Supports branch participation in community projects, particularly literacy driven initiatives. May serve on local boards.
- Handles customer complaints and problems, resolves delinquent accounts, coordinates facility repairs and addresses staffing issues system wide.
- Coordinates responses or directly replies to public s written comments on patron suggestion forms.
- Ensures Library sections are prepared to handle security issues including trespass. Creates incident reports and forms as required. Coordinates security officers hours.
- Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
- Master s degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school.
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible library experience, with at least four (4) years in an administrative/supervisory capacity; excellent interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of library science principles and practices, especially as they relate to public libraries.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Knowledge of library administrative principles and practices.
- Ability to implement library policies and procedures.
- Ability to carry out assignments independently.
- Ability to evaluate situations and creatively implement constructive solutions.
- Ability to promote team building among professional and non-professional subordinates.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative staff, co-workers, County officials, and the general public.
- Ability to function effectively under stress.
