GENERAL MAGISTRATE ASSISTANT -
Job DescriptionThe Twelfth Judicial Circuit has an opening for a Magistrate Assistant, reporting to the Family Magistrate. The position requires a self‑motivated individual with keen attention to detail, the ability to complete assignments on time, and the discretion to handle the confidential and sensitive matters before the Family Magistrate. The successful candidate must treat all persons with courtesy, dignity, and respect while providing equal access to the Court through detailed administrative work.
Salary: $3,555.08 monthly (non‑negotiable).
Responsibilities- Answer telephone calls and assist callers;
- Direct callers to other departments as appropriate;
- Draft, type and email daily dockets;
- Draft and process recommended orders;
- Prepare and process final orders for the presiding judge;
- Maintain the calendar for the Magistrate and schedule hearings as appropriate.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended education level on a year‑for‑year basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Legal experience necessary; family law experience preferred but not required;
- Knowledge of the rules of English grammar, spelling, punctuation;
- Ability to compose, proofread, and edit correspondence and reports;
- Communicate clearly and effectively;
- Interact effectively with the general public;
- Maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive information;
- Work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- Establish work priorities;
- Analyze court files for completeness of appropriate legal documentation.
