Position Summary

The Medical Office Specialist (MOS) is responsible for front desk coverage for the medical practice. Duties include registration, check‑in, collecting co‑pays, scheduling appointments, billing patients, and scanning records into the EMR. The MOS must possess medical terminology knowledge, strong organization and communication skills, and the ability to adapt to flexible work schedules with frequent interruptions. Professional appearance, a calm disposition, and problem‑solving skills are required.

The MOS must maintain confidentiality at all times and reliably complete all assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform front desk duties: greet patients, manage check‑in/check‑out, collect co‑pays, and schedule appointments.
  • Document patient visits and scan or update records in the EMR.
  • Bill patients and complete charge reconciliation.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional standards.
  • Assist with end‑of‑day cash balancing and charge reconciliation per clinic protocol.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent professional, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a courteous demeanor.
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and general medical office procedures.
  • Ability to multi‑task and remain detail oriented under a fast‑paced environment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Office Assistant/Specialist program or Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certificate of completion or one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or Medical Office Specialist preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology required.
  • Experience with patient check‑in and check‑out process per clinic protocol required.
  • Knowledge of end‑of‑day cash balancing and charge reconciliation per clinic protocol required.
