Facility: 12-1 Bradenton Probation and Parole

Responsibilities
  • The incumbent supervises, surveils and maintains a specialized caseload consisting of youthful offenders, drug offender probation, community controlees, pre-trial intervention offenders, offender releases or any combination of the above. May supervise other types or classifications of offenders as workload dictates.
  • May perform duties relating to intake officer, court liaison officer, trainer and electronic monitoring device installer.
  • May direct and supervise a correctional probation officer at a probation and restitution center; may monitor a residential treatment facility and serve as on-site departmental representative supervising program participants.
  • Encourages offender compliance with supervision orders through guidance, goal setting, monitoring of behavior and community supervision.
  • Conducts field and office supervision visits via personal contact, collateral/community contacts, surveillance contacts, telephone contacts and electronic methods to ensure compliance and provide assistance as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to public and victim needs, concerns and complaints and takes appropriate action as required.
  • Assesses offender needs, treatment options and supervision objectives; establishes and records structured treatment programs and other programs to enhance offender improvement in education, counseling, social services, health education, vocational training, substance abuse, and other areas; ensures adherence to these plans.
  • Develops offender payment plans for monetary obligations and enforces compliance; maintains case records (electronic and hard copy) and documents status of offender background, legal history, treatment and progress.
  • Conducts investigations (pre-sentence, pre-trial, post-sentence, interstate compact, sentencing guidelines) and makes recommendations regarding continued supervision, revocation, diversion or incarceration.
  • Attends hearings or testifies as needed; reports non-compliance and prepares required reports for sentencing or releasing authorities.
  • Maintains liaison with judiciary, prosecutors, public defenders, law enforcement, treatment providers, non-profit service agencies, and other criminal justice representatives; develops partnerships with local law enforcement to promote public safety.
  • Provides individual and group counseling; interviews offenders to obtain information related to supervision or investigation.
  • Monitors and tests offenders for controlled substances and alcohol as directed or as necessary for community protection.
  • Develops and maintains resources for placement of offenders in public service assignments; conducts searches and makes arrests of offenders under supervision; installs and maintains electronic/radio equipment including GPS systems and interprets data to document compliance.
  • Performs administrative duties and assists supervisors in their absence; participates in teams or committees and may act as day-to-day training officer for a correctional probation officer.
