Location Information: Manatee Regional Juvenile Detention Center - 1803 5th St W, Bradenton, FL 34205
Minimum Biweekly Rate of Pay: $1,751.77 Bi-Weekly = $21.90 per hour
(In accordance with current spending restrictions, if the appointment is an internal promotion, the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever higher.)
POSITION DESCRIPTION :
This is a highly responsible position in the criminal justice system. The employee is expected to perform all duties in the optimum responsible manner, demonstrate leadership by being a positive role model for staff, youth and the community, and treat all persons with dignity and respect.
Responsibilities include adhering to agency or facility policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and secure environment for youth, and ensuring an atmosphere with zero tolerance for detained youth escapes, abuse, sexual harassment, and inappropriate conduct by staff. Assists in the operation of a secure detention center, ensuring the safe custody of all detained youth and safeguarding their constitutional rights with attention to legal, medical and mental health issues.
Assists the supervisor to ensure services and programming for detained youth comply with court orders, departmental policies and Quality Assurance standards.
Successfully completes training to maintain proficiency on dispensing medications to youth and distributes medication in the absence of a medical authority or facility nurse.
Performs duties in Master Control, admissions, releases, and transportation as needed.
Supervises youth in all activities and maintains control by giving directives, counseling, and using appropriate levels of verbal or protective action response (PAR) as needed in accordance with policies and procedures.
Inspects facility, youth, visitors and packages for contraband.
Trains and coaches employees on duties and policies.
In the absence of the supervisor, assumes acting supervisor’s role.
Writes reports and prepares records regarding incidents, youth movement, and noteworthy information; documents violations of procedures and laws; prepares detained youth for court appearances and transports/escorts youth to medical, criminal justice, social services and judicial facilities as required.
Uses security and emergency equipment to ensure safety and security of youth and facility.
Completes 10-minute checks, 5-minute checks or continuous supervision as required for confined or suicidal youth.
Assesses information available through the Juvenile Justice Information System.
Initiates and maintains detained youth counts as directed by procedures.
Attends and completes required training, and, in emergencies, utilizes CPR, AED and First Aid techniques learned during certification.
Attends required meetings.
Maintains a valid Driver License and reports changes within 72 hours. Will not drive a state vehicle or use a private vehicle on state business if license is revoked, suspended, or restricted.
This position must comply with requirements in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, Prompt Payment Compliance Law.
Performs other related duties as required.
