Project Manager - Senior Project Engineer (DOQ) - Public Works General Information
- Work Location: 1022 26th Avenue East, Bradenton, Florida 34208
- Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
- Expected Starting Salary Range: $71,556.54 - $

Act as project manager for a variety of construction, engineering, Capital Improvement Plan, and other projects related to public infrastructure. Manage activities of project engineers, contractors, consultants, and other staff. Provide direction during planning, design, land acquisition and construction phases to assure a quality project is produced timely and cost‑effective.
Prepare construction plans, specifications, engineering reports and cost estimates. Perform intermediate to complex engineering design and program planning. Sign and seal documents for outside agencies when licensed.
Typical indoor office environment with periodic outdoor field work. Must lift equipment up to 25 lbs alone and up to 50 lbs with assistance. Requires visual acuity, depth perception, hearing, ability to drive county vehicles, and may work outside normal hours.
Responsibilities- Serve as project/Client manager and/or civil engineer for design, permitting and construction of public infrastructure.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day activities and maintain client satisfaction, building strong relationships.
- Read and interpret engineering plans and use engineering techniques to solve problems.
- Coordinate preparation, review and research for development projects for compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Code and county design standards.
- Prepare complete construction plans and specifications, bid packages, attend pre‑bid conferences, inspect construction in the field.
- Estimate project costs, negotiate change orders, approve contractor payments.
- Sign and seal drawings and other pertinent documents when licensed.
- Maintain records, reports, correspondence and provide testimony for public hearings.
- Lead daily activities of a small team; oversee technical staff as needed.
- Keep current knowledge of best practices, laws, trends and attend educational events as approved.
- Perform other related work, including weather or emergency duties as required.
- Valid Florida driver license within 30 days of hire.
- For RTMC Traffic Signal Timing:
Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification desired. - Associate’s degree for Project Manager;
Bachelor’s degree for Project Engineer I–III and SR Engineer. Current Florida P.E. license required; out‑of‑state licenses transfer within one year. - 3+ years of progressive experience in planning, designing or constructing public/private projects (Project Manager).
- 4+ years for Project Engineer I; 5+ years for Engineer II; 6+ years for Senior Engineer.
- Prior budget management experience desired; experience as Engineer of Record or lead/supervisor experience desired.
Skills and Abilities
- Prioritize tasks, handle competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Detail‑oriented, accurate, organized.
- Proficiency in engineering design, permitting, construction plans and specifications, bid packages.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance (SWFWMD, FDOT) and software such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, GIS, stormwater modeling, traffic analysis packages.
- Excellent verbal, written, public presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and with supervision commensurate with experience.
