The VIA (Very Important Ascender) program provides an enhanced camp experience specially designed for young athletes ages 8–9. VIA campers receive continuous supervision, guided transitions between activities, dedicated support, and an engaging schedule tailored to their age group. VIA counselors play a critical role safe, energetic, structured, and confidence‑building environment as these young athletes discover new sports, develop foundational skills, and enjoy memorable summer adventures.

Camp Counselor, Summer 2026

is responsible for the safety, supervision, engagement, and development of VIA campers ages 8–9. VIA counselors serve as the primary support system for campers and families by escorting children to sports sessions, monitoring their progress, leading downtime activities, supporting off‑campus trips, and ensuring that both campers and parents are excited and satisfied with their experience. This role may include day, evening, and weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide constant supervision and maintain a secure environment for VIA campers (ages 8–9).
  • Escort campers to and from sports sessions, meals, activities, and all on‑ and off‑campus locations.
  • Actively monitor skill development, participation, and behavior throughout daily activities.
  • Lead age‑appropriate games, activities, and downtime engagement to create a fun, structured environment.
  • Support off‑campus excursions across various locations in Florida, ensuring safety, order, and enjoyment.
  • Serve as a positive, responsible adult presence and role model.
  • Act as a primary communication liaison between VIA parents, campers, coaches, and administration.
  • Provide parents with updates on camper progress, behavior, and daily highlights.
  • Assist campers with daily routines, transitions, and emotional or social needs.
  • Help acclimate campers to campus life and provide clear, encouraging guidance throughout their camp experience.
Safety & Policy Adherence
  • Monitor campers across campus including classrooms, fields, residence areas, and common spaces.
  • Uphold Academy rules, policies, and safety procedures for young children.
  • Assist Health Services with camper wellness needs and communicate any concerns promptly.
  • Participate in emergency response and crisis management procedures for weather events, illness, injury, and other situations.
  • Ensure conduct expectations are clearly communicated and consistently reinforced.
Program Excellence
  • Contribute to planning and execution of camper activities and enrichment experiences.
  • Promote a positive, healthy, supportive environment for all VIA campers.
  • Maintain open, ongoing communication with Student Life Leadership regarding successes, challenges, or needs.
  • Assist with overall operations of the VIA program and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress (education, recreation, sport, psychology, or related fields preferred).
  • Strong customer service and parent‑communication skills.
  • Experience working with children, especially younger age groups (8–9‑year‑olds preferred).
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Experience with PC systems and MS Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual or multilingual
  • Previous summer camp experience
  • Background in youth education, sports, recreation, or childcare
  • Experience with counseling, crisis response, or conflict mediation
