Role Description
This is an online contract role for a Music Minister serving Church of the Apostles in Parrish, FL – Manatee County Area. The role will begin as a weekly or monthly contracted position, with the clear possibility of developing into a more permanent part-time role as the mission parish grows.
This role invites meaningful creative ownership within a shared liturgical vision. Initially, the Music Minister will work closely with clergy to plan and shape worship, selecting and preparing music that serves the structure of the liturgy and the theological themes of each service, while thoughtfully blending ancient and contemporary expressions of song. As the ministry develops, the role is intended to grow into a more self-directed music ministry, with the Music Minister entrusted to lead the musical life of the parish in harmony with the Church calendar and parish mission, helping cultivate a distinctive, rooted, and vibrant musical identity suited to a growing mission parish.
This role is ideal for a musician who values liturgical worship, collaborative ministry, and the opportunity to help build something that build the faith of community from the ground up.
Responsibilities include:- Collaborating with clergy to form cohesive liturgical worship with song
- Selecting hymns and musical settings appropriate to the lectionary, season, and liturgical action
- Leading and supporting congregational singing
- Rehearsing and coordinating with instrumentalists and vocalists as available
- Providing musical leadership for weekly Eucharistic worship and occasional parish events
- Helping develop a sustainable music ministry suited to a growing mission parish
- Proficiency in music direction, vocal leadership, and playing at least one musical instrument
- Experience selecting and leading music for worship in a liturgical or church setting is a plus. (but not necessary).
- Familiarity with music traditions and contemporary music settings within liturgical worship
- Ability to collaborate thoughtfully

- Passion for supporting congregational worship and participation
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional special services
Compensation will be competitive and aligned with our commitment to fair pay, particularly in recognition of the professional nature of contracted ministry work. Initial compensation may be structured on a weekly or monthly contract basis, depending on availability and scope of responsibilities.
Payment may be made electronically or by check, and will be issued during the week of each contracted period. Mileage reimbursement will be included during the initial phase of the ministry. As the music ministry and parish continue to grow, compensation, scope, and structure may be revisited and renegotiated with the intention of supporting a sustainable and long-term part-time role.
