Overview of the role

We’re looking for a Positive Support Practitioner to join our team supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs. You’ll help develop and deliver Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and recovery-focused approaches that improve wellbeing, independence, and quality of life.

This role is ideal for someone with care or support experience, who is passionate about PBS and person-centred practice. You will receive mentoring from senior colleagues and opportunities for further training.

A full UK driving licence and access to a car is essential as you will be visiting the offices in Bracknell and Southampton, and homes on a weekly basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Individual and group work under the guidance of Senior Practitioners.
  • Work with colleagues and external professionals to ensure joined-up, person centred support.
  • Support the Senior Positive Support Practitioner in mentoring frontline staff teams.
  • Promote the positive well‑being of the people who live in services by assisting in the provision of PBS for individuals supported by the organisation.
  • Undertake assessments, observations, and behaviour reviews under supervision.
  • Co‑produce PBS Plans and Wellness Recovery Action Plans with individuals, families and staff teams.
  • Assist in the development of interventions aimed to reduce the intensity, frequency and potential of challenging behaviours.
  • Collect and report data on behaviour and recovery outcomes and assist with monitoring of interventions and contribute to reflective practice and service delivery.
  • Provide day to day guidance to staff teams on the use of PBS and recovery strategies.
  • Attend and contribute to service meetings, reviews and multidisciplinary forums as appropriate.
  • Participate in professional development, PBS qualifications, networking events, supervisions, and appraisals.
  • Uphold high standards of PBS, safeguarding standards, organisational policies, and professional codes of conduct.
Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Level 3 (or above) in Health & Social Care, Psychology, Nursing, Education, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Willingness to work towards PBS qualification (Level 4/5).
  • Understanding of PBS principles, recovery-focused approaches, safeguarding, and social care standards.
Desirable
  • Degree-level qualification in Psychology, Health & Social Care, Nursing, or related discipline.
  • Awareness of WRAP, trauma-informed care, Positive Behaviour Intervention Frameworks, functional assessments, co-production and strength-based practice.
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Supporting people with learning disabilities, autism or mental health needs.
  • Implementation of PBS/Recovery approaches.
  • Contributing to care planning, assessments or reviews.
  • Contribution to service meetings or MDTs.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively.
  • Strong communication, observation and team-work skills.

  • Data analysis & digital literacy.
  • Delivering training, workshops or group sessions.
