Carmichael UK is currently seeking an experienced Section Engineer with a strong background in earthworks to join a major HS2 infrastructure package in Northamptonshire.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a defined section of works on one of the UK s most significant civil engineering programmes, working alongside an established delivery team.
The RoleAs Section Engineer, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and technical delivery of earthworks activities within your section, ensuring works are completed safely, to specification, and in line with programme targets.
Key ResponsibilitiesManaging and coordinating bulk earthworks and groundworks within your section
Providing engineering leadership and support to Site Engineers
Overseeing setting out, surveying, and machine control activities
Managing subcontractors and daily site operations
Ensuring QA, ITPs, and as-built records are produced and maintained
Supporting programme planning, permits, and temporary works
Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance
Proven experience as a Section Engineer on large civil engineering or infrastructure projects
Strong earthworks background (bulk excavation, cut & fill, mass haul)
Experience on rail, highways, or major infrastructure schemes preferred
Competent with GPS / machine control systems (Trimble, Leica, or similar)
CSCS card essential (SMSTS or SSSTS desirable)
Confident leader with strong communication and organisational skills
