Position Overview
MECHANIC II – In addition to Mechanic I duties and responsibilities (primarily responsible for major mechanical work on vehicles, trucks, trailers, implements, large and small equipment, and tools.), the Mechanic II is primarily charged with performing all major mechanical work on vehicles, trucks, trailers, implements, campus standby generators, large and small equipment and tools. Includes welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including fabrication of parts for vehicles and equipment.
Participates in University Services Fleet and Equipment condition assessment.
MECHANIC III – In addition to Mechanic II duties and responsibilities, the Mechanic III is primarily charged with performing all major mechanical work on mid to heavy trucks, diesel engines, tractors hydraulics and other specialty vehicles, equipment, and implements.

General Statement
The mechanic shop, as part of the Facilities Services department, services and maintains all heavy equipment, vehicles, equipment and implements used by Facilities Services and a variety of MSU departments.
Duties and Responsibilities- Major mechanical work includes adjust, repair, and replace engines, motors, drivetrain, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, fuel systems, brake systems, heating and cooling systems, body controls systems, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Minor maintenance duties and repairs such as adjust, lubricate, change fluids and filters, replace engine and body accessories, and repair and replace tires.
- Requisition parts through Campus Stores and Outside Vendors.
- Estimate time and cost of services.
- Accurately complete service records.
- Assist Service Technician(s) and Mechanic(s) as required.
- Perform all major mechanical work on vehicles, trucks, trailers, implements, campus standby generators, large and small equipment and tools.
- Weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including fabrication of parts for vehicles and equipment.
- Participate in University Services Fleet and Equipment condition assessments.
- Perform all major mechanical work on mid to heavy trucks, diesel engines, tractors hydraulics and other specialty vehicles, equipment, and implements.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of safe standard practices/ procedures, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of mechanic/machinist trade.
- Experience inspecting, troubleshooting, adjusting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of automotive (gasoline and diesel), agricultural, and specialized equipment.
- Ability to estimate required work time and materials and maintain accurate records using a computer.
- Organize and prioritize work assignments to meet deadlines.
- Must currently possess at least 4 ASE certifications and obtain within 6 months of hire the status of ASE Master Automobile Technician including all 8 ASE A Series
