Studio Director | Luxury Interior Design Studio

We are hiring on behalf of our client, a growing and highly regarded luxury interior design studio, seeking an experienced Studio Director to lead day‑to‑day operations, support the creative team, and partner closely with the Principal to drive business growth, client satisfaction, and team performance.

This is a leadership role that blends operations, financial oversight, people management, and client‑facing responsibilities. The Studio Director serves as the connective tissue of the firm—ensuring systems run smoothly, teams feel supported, and projects are delivered with excellence from first conversation through completion.

The Role

The Studio Director oversees effective operating procedures across the studio while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performing environment. This individual works closely with department leads and ownership to improve operational efficiency, increase employee retention, strengthen client relationships, and support sustainable business growth. They are a key representative of the studio, internally as a trusted leader and externally as a confident, professional point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Studio & Business Operations

  • Oversee and continuously improve studio‑wide operating procedures
  • Identify opportunities to enhance productivity, communication, and workflow efficiency
  • Review internal documents and processes and recommend operational improvements
  • Partner with leadership to support strategic objectives and long‑term growth
  • Set project budgets and financial goals in collaboration with leadership
  • Monitor project financial performance throughout the lifecycle
  • Ensure projects remain aligned with financial, schedule, and quality expectations
  • Support overall business performance through thoughtful operational management

Client Experience & Representation

  • Represent the studio to prospective and current clients from initial inquiry through project completion
  • Serve as a trusted client‑facing leader, ensuring clear communication and exceptional service
  • Support dispute resolution and problem‑solving when challenges arise
  • Deliver presentations and project updates with professionalism and confidence
  • Act as a key touchpoint for human resource–related questions and concerns
  • Support onboarding, retention, and professional development initiatives
  • Serve as an impartial third party during employee reviews, performance discussions, write‑ups, and workplace conflicts
  • Promote a culture of respect, accountability, and collaboration
  • Lead by example, fostering strong teamwork and shared ownership of studio goals
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 6-8 years of leadership/management experience, preferably in the architecture and interior design industry
  • Previous experience in operations and team management
  • Strong understanding of organizational operations, best practices, and workload balancing
  • Excellent leadership and people‑management skills
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and dependable
  • Professional, respectful, and approachable demeanor
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities
  • Clear, thoughtful written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
  • Adaptable and flexible in a dynamic studio environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite
  • Experience with Studio Designer, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Strong computer literacy and comfort working across multiple systems
