PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the Computer Hardware and Software Technician provides frontline technical support to staff and students across the district. This position is responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and basic network-related issues, as well as assisting end users through the help desk system. The technician supports the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of personal computing devices—including Windows desktops/laptops, Chromebooks, Macs, and iPads—as well as instructional technology such as interactive panels, document cameras, and projectors.
Additionally, the technician helps interpret and explain hardware and software functionality to users in a clear, concise and supportive manner.
- Deploys, troubleshoots and maintains Personal Computer (PC/Mac/Chromebook) software and hardware
- Installing, assembling and configuring monitors and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related hardware.
- Maintains inventory of all hardware and software in asset tracking system.
- Maintains strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in all areas of hardware, software and communications.
- Maintains an excellent knowledge of Windows 10/11 and the Google/Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to hardware and software implemented in the district.
- Maintains network and power wiring integrity for staff workstations and lab computers.
- Act as District technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with computer systems and related peripherals.
- May assist the NSA (Network Systems Administrator) in installing, maintaining, and documenting network hardware.
- Personal computers and basic networking hardware and software.
- Hardware and software installation.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Chrome OS.
- Communicate technical issues to the staff and users in non-technical terms.
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all district users and vendors.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, analyze and draw valid conclusions.
- Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board policies.
- Drive a vehicle to and from all district facilities will be required.
- Train other staff, students, users and administrators.
- Work independently and with a team, exercising initiative and good judgment.
- Read, write and speak English fluently.
- Be flexible to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances with job-related equipment.
- Manage time and responsibilities, adapting to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality and meeting deadlines and schedules.
- 1-3 years of experience working with computer hardware and peripherals.
- 1-3 years of experience working with Windows based software programs/systems.
- Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Associate Degree in related field from an accredited university.
- Successful work experience working in a related computer field.
- IT related Certifications.
- Knowledge of macOS, Chrome
OS, iPadOS, and JAMF School MDM. - Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
- Knowledge of Google Admin Console.
- Ability to speak a second language.
- Montana Driver’s license or the ability to obtain license within three months of hire date.
Hourly Overtime eligible/ Shift: Monday through Friday
Hourly Wage:$24.49 - $26.67 per hour D.O.E
