Overview

Job Description A Medical Assistant has accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This will involve caring for patients with acute and chronic needs. A Medical Assistant will be responsible for communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions. This is a PRN on call position.

Shift Details

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility in scheduling.

Unit/Location

Will flost to Neuro, Cardio, ENT and Urgology in Bozeman, MT.

Role

As a Medical Assistant at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team, ensuring our patients receive the best care by:

  • Providing patient care:
    Under the direction of the clinician, assisting the provider to gather information relevant to the patient’s visit and condition.
  • Effective communication:
    Communicating clearly with patients seeking care through different modalities including telephone and in-person interactions.
  • Team collaboration:
    Working with cross-functional teams to collaborate on patient care. Attention to detail and follow-through are key components in helping to provide the care that is needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Must be obtained prior to start date.
  • One of the following:
    Proof of completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR at least one year of Medical Assistant work experience OR current active and in good standing RN/LPN license to practice nursing in the state of Montana.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
  • Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and PHI of patients, members, and caregivers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
  • Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
  • Current national MA certification from one of the following: RMA (AMT), NCMA, CCMA, or CMA (AAMA).

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication and the ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care and medication preparation.

Expected to lift and move to transfer patients, and to bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights up to heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.

Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms and may be asked to stand for extended periods.

For roles requiring driving:
Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
