Position Summary:

The Bozeman Deaconess Hospital Nuclear Medicine Supervisor provides patient care daily within the acute care environment with the additional responsibility of oversight for the daily activities of the nuclear medicine department and staff. This role will work closely with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and documentation as it relates to the standard of care within a nuclear medicine department and the provision of both diagnostic and therapeutic exams through the administration of radiopharmaceutical agents.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • Graduate of an Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited nuclear medicine program, or equivalent.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in nuclear medicine or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB)
  • 5 years of post-graduate experience
  • American Heart Association BLS within 60 days of hire

Preferred

  • One (1) year supervisory experience

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs nuclear medicine exams and procedures as requested by the medical staff for all patient populations.
  • Assists the Radiologists and other medical staff during exams and procedures.
  • Performs ancillary duties as required to maintain proper distribution, billing, and archival of exams and procedures.
  • Completes documentation of all information required for proper interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of exams.
  • Retrieves written orders and related health information to ensure the timely performance and reporting of NM exams and procedures.
  • Participates in the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of the hospital quality indicators and regulatory compliance.
  • Partners with leadership by providing reports on department progress, objectives, and operational issues. Assists with short and long term goals, budget and staffing needs.
  • Monitors the status of equipment quality control, calibration, repairs and preventive maintenance; develops and provides training for staff and providers.
  • Maintains staff schedule, training, oversight and performance evaluations.
  • Participates in and contributes to the Radiation Safety meeting in collaboration with the system manager and Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
  • Assists the RSO with department and program review of regulatory documentation and compliance.
  • Participates in call rotation with staff technologists.
  • Updates and manages exam protocols and department policies for ongoing quality of care improvements and organizational compliance.
  • Duties include:
  • Patient Safety:
    Responsible for the equipment operation/maintenance/quality control, compliance with approved policies and protocols by staff and providers, as well as compliance with NRC guidelines and standards for radioactive materials.
  • Patient schedules:
    Responsible for optimizing exam schedules to minimize service delays. This includes prioritizing the needs of the referring physicians, patients and to accommodate add-on exams.
  • Protocols:
    Work with the radiologists to develop, implement, change and update protocols. Will ensure compliance of staff utilizing appropriate protocols and maintenance of uniform standards and image quality.
  • QI & QA:
    Responsible for development and performance of annual competencies with all staff. Will work with the radiologist to address QA concerns.
  • Patient

    Experience:

    Accountable for improvement of Patient Experience and Employee Engagement scores.
  • Staffing & Scheduling:
    Responsible for the development of staffing schedules that are formulated in a timely manner at least a month in advance. The staffing schedules must meet the productivity standards set forth by the department budget.
  • Staff Training/ orientation:
    Responsible for the training and orientation functions that are employee centered, complete and timely.
  • Staff Development:
    Ensures ongoing appropriate training and skill development for supervised staff.
