Position Summary:

The Patient Care Tech (PCT) supports patient care as part of the healthcare team, including programs like Tele-Companion and Tele-Tech. Responsibilities involve complex personal patient care duties such as supporting diagnostic procedures, assisting with nursing treatments, patient charting, and providing patient instructions. The PCT maintains direct relationships with patients and collaborates with the nursing team to deliver direct patient services.

The Tele-Companion ensures the safety of patients with physiologic, mental, or behavioral limitations deemed at risk for self-injury.

Tele-Tech duties include coordinating telemetry equipment and applying electrocardiography leads.

Ambulatory PCT responsibilities may include chart review, pre-visit planning, patient intake, managing schedules and referrals, scheduling appointments, coordinating prescription assistance, and handling pre-authorization processes.

Essential qualities for Patient Care Techs include excellent analytical and technical skills, attention to detail, adaptability to evidence-based practices, and adherence to Bozeman Health policies and delegation protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Nurse Aide or Emergency Medical Technician certification
  • Previous healthcare experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Essential Job Functions:

Employees must complete all required training and demonstrate competence before performing duties, including:

  • Achieving PCT competency within three months of hire
  • Completing Safety and Tele-Companion training as applicable
  • Using standard precautions and ensuring patient safety
  • Providing respectful, dignified basic nursing care
  • Documenting vital signs and patient data accurately
  • Ordering supplies and performing designated treatments
  • Following additional role-specific skills post-training

  • Sound judgment, patience, professionalism
  • Discretion, confidentiality, and tact
  • Ability to perform under stress in busy environments
  • Proficiency with computer applications and office equipment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Organization and prioritization skills to meet deadlines

Schedule Requirements:

  • Consistent attendance is required
  • Potential for overtime, weekends, and after-hours shifts
  • On-call availability may be necessary

Push/Pull (Repeatedly): Use upper body strength to exert force.
Fine-Finger Movements (Continuously): Tasks involving fingers like typing or handling small objects.
Vision (Continuously): Visual acuity for data analysis and reading materials.
Cognitive Skills (Continuously): Learning, focus, independent task completion, decision-making.
Exposures (Continuously): Bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, infectious diseases, emotional stress.
