General Statement

The Student Success Coordinator manages student services and provides academic program support to the faculty in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics ( DAEE ) in conjunction with the MSU Advising Commons, the College of Agriculture Advising Center, Letters and Science Undergraduate Advising Center, and College of Engineering MIE advisors. This position serves as program coordinator to DAEE faculty, students, alumni, and prospective students for departmental and university policies and procedures from pre‑matriculation to post‑graduation.

The Student Success Coordinator will enhance the quality and effectiveness of undergraduate and graduate student academic programs, services and experiences with high level advising and technical support to students, faculty, and staff. Responds and works with campus departments to resolve academic issues. Maintains student electronic files, keeping up‑to‑date with university procedures, interpreting university academic policy and providing academic advice to faculty and students.

The Student Success Coordinator monitors other academic programs that potentially affect the DAEE. Other related office duties may be assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate the undergraduate student program:
  • Serve as the main departmental point of contact for all minor seeking students and all incoming transfer students.
  • Assist with first‑year student orientation.
  • Provide information and support for students considering or actively transitioning to one of the DAEE’s programs (B.S. in Agricultural Economics, B.S. in Economics, B.S. in Financial Engineering).
  • Work with faculty and certifying officer on transfer coursework, course substitutions, and graduation audits.
  • Assist students in understanding and following university and departmental academic policies and procedures, rules, and requirements.
  • Register students in restricted‑entry courses and maintain waiting lists for faculty.
  • Inform students of academic and student support services.
  • Process undergraduate student forms, including undergrad research, independent study, Add/Drop, Change of Curriculum, and major and minor applications.
  • Serve as department liaison with the College of Agriculture Advising team and Advising Commons.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to support the growth and effectiveness of the departmental advising.
  • Maintain departmental advising information and resources SharePoint.
  • Contribute to undergraduate recruiting and retention efforts in the department.
  • Analyze and process requests for petitions for withdrawals and assist students in understanding requests for core credit, graduation, and suspension appeals, etc.
  • Provide faculty updates on undergraduate academic advising materials and course information, and assist the Resident Instruction Committee on assigning students to faculty advisors.
  • Direct the planning and assessment of student engagement events to promote a sense of belonging in the department, including development of an annual strategy targeting students, faculty, staff, alumni and the broader Montana community.
  • Assist with college events, including the First‑Year Student Welcome Social, the recruitment luncheons, and graduation events.
  • Develop strategies and implement programs and services that engage employers and increase experiential education, internship, and part‑time/full‑time opportunities for students; acquire, maintain, and analyze data on internship, job, and other student outcomes.
